Early Enrolment Invitation for Year 7 Islamic Art

We are excited to announce early enrolment for our Year 7 Islamic Art course. By enrolling early, students with no prior experience of Islam Art will have ample time to prepare and get ready for the exciting learning experiences that lie ahead.

Welcome to Level 1 of our Islamic Art curriculum! This entry-level course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental elements of Islamic art, with a focus on calligraphy, geometric patterns, and bimorphic designs. In this level, students will begin by using traditional tools, such as a compass and straightedge, to recreate and explore beautiful patterns from the Islamic World. Starting with simpler designs, students will gradually advance to more complex patterns, emphasizing the calligraphy traditions of West and North Africa. As students progress, they will develop their skills in reading and writing various calligraphy scripts and learning intricate arabesque and geometric patterns.

TERM 2

Calligraphy:
- Studying Ajami scripts
- Studying various Sudani manuscripts
- Writing poetry and prayers
Geometry:
- Geometric patterns
- Drawing platonic solids
- Construction of spirals, tessellations and rosettes
Biomorphic Forms: :
- Mosque patterns
- Design & painting technique
- Iran ornamental design work

TERM 3

Calligraphy:

Cost: £550 per year, payable in 10 monthly instalments of £55.00.

Requirements

Age Group: This course is designed for students aged 10-12 years.

Prerequisites: No prior experience is necessary but good fine motor skills are highly recommended

Materials: Good quality compass set ( Jakar, Rotoring brand), 30 cm and 50/60 cm ruler, Pencils. Eraser, A3 cartridge paper pad, A3 Binder/folder, Bamboo/Reed calligraphy pen size 3 or 4, Black Sumi ink, likka/silk thread, Matt glossy paper, Paintbrush, Watercolour paper pad, Tracing paper, Masking tape, Self healing mat, Craft knife. (These must be purchased separately and independent of the course enrolment fee)

Studies with master Arabic calligraphers from the UAE, China and England in Riqa’a, Thuluth and Sudani scripts. Also studied classical Latin scripts Copperplate, Italic and Uncial scripts. Lives in Reading,UK, married with 3 children.
