    Description

    This Year 9 English programme is designed to address learning gaps and build a solid foundation for students preparing for the Edexcel Pearson IGCSE. Through a structured progression of novels, plays, and poetry, students will develop essential reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The course emphasizes comprehension, critical analysis, effective communication, and a deep appreciation of literature.

    The course content includes:

    Term 1: Foundation and Reinforcement

    In Term 1, the focus is on reinforcing fundamental skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students engage with short stories, simple novels, and poetry to improve comprehension and identify basic literary devices. Writing tasks center on narrative and descriptive forms, emphasising clear paragraph structure, vocabulary development, and basic grammar and punctuation. Speaking and listening activities include group discussions and short presentations to build communication and active listening skills. Language study covers basic grammar, including parts of speech and sentence construction.

    Term 2: Skill Development and Practice

    Term 2 aims to develop and practice more advanced skills. Students read more complex novels, plays, and a wider range of poetry, focusing on deeper analysis of themes, character motivations, and plot. Writing tasks expand to include persuasive essays and letters, with an emphasis on structuring arguments and revising drafts. Speaking and listening activities involve structured debates, longer presentations, and drama exercises to enhance argumentation and expressive skills. Language study introduces advanced grammar and syntax, such as subordinate clauses and varied sentence types.

    Term 3: Application and Mastery

    In Term 3, students apply and master their skills across varied texts, including non-fiction and complex literature, with a focus on critical analysis and synthesizing themes. Writing tasks involve extended pieces in both creative and transactional genres, ensuring technical precision and developing a unique writing style. Speaking and listening activities include extended debates, formal presentations, and collaborative projects to strengthen formal speaking and teamwork abilities. Language study explores etymology, advanced language use, and sophisticated vocabulary application, preparing students for future academic challenges.

    Cost: £640 per year, payable in 8 monthly instalments of £80.00.
