Cursive Writing in 6 Weeks

Cursive Writing in 6 Weeks is an intensive 6 weeks course to reintroduce cursive handwriting to children and adults. This course is aimed at anyone who has tried out cursive before but has not built up fluency and legibility. The objective is to build up legible penmanship skills and incorporate this new skill in daily work such as homework, note taking, journaling. This course can also lead to deeper study of calligraphy. It can also serve as an introduction to the Bronze Award for young people.

Key Objectives

  • By the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • Write up to 500 frequently used words in cursive.
  • Build fluency and efficiency in cursive handwriting·
  • Improve fine and gross motor skills.
  • Read cursive handwriting.
  • The course includes

  • Lecture Sessions: Weekly handouts and pre recorded sessions.
  • Individual Journals: Keeping a course journal and uploading daily practice sheets.
  • Homework Assignments: 50%
  • Journal : 20%
  • Final Project: 30%
  • Course Schedule

    Weekly lessons at self-defined pace: Daily practice recommended.


    Week 1:

    • Introduction to course materials, goal setting and expectations.
    • Weekly practice work and corrections
    • How to practice with the worksheets
    • Practice page 7- 15

    Week 2:

    • Weekly practice work and corrections
    • Pages 15- 25

    Week 3:

    • Weekly practice work and corrections
    • Pages 26-36

    Week 4:

    • Weekly practice work and corrections
    • Pages 37-47

    Week 5:

    • Weekly practice work and corrections
    • Pages 48-58

    Week 6:

    • Weekly practice work, corrections and course project.
    • Project work: 1 page of an essay or copy work written in pen or pencil showing newly built on penmanship skills.
    • Pages 59 – 64


    • Able to commit to practice time of about 10-20 mins daily.
    • Printer, paper, pen or pencils and camera/scanner to upload submission.
    • Peterson’s Handwriting Word Masters Workbook – Tutor will provide the worksheets
