    Description

The Stewards School Year 7 Maths after-school club aims to build a strong foundation in mathematics by revisiting essential concepts from Years 5/6 and addressing common areas of difficulty in the Year 7 curriculum. Through targeted instruction and skill-building activities, students will fill learning gaps, deepen their understanding, and develop confidence in applying maths to both schoolwork and real-world situations.

The program will follow the White Rose Maths Year 7 curriculum, with specific emphasis on reviewing Years 5/6 topics, such as fractions, decimals, percentages, and basic geometry.

    Year 7 topics will include:

    • Algebraic reasoning (expressions, equations)
    • Ratios and proportional relationships
    • Geometry (angles, shapes)
    • Number operations (negative numbers, prime factorization)
    • Statistics and probability

    Each session will consist of:

    1. Concept Review: Revisiting foundational Year 5/6 topics to ensure understanding.
    2. Key Year 7 Topics: Teaching key concepts that students tend to struggle with, such as algebra and geometry.
    3. Practical Application: Problem-solving activities that reinforce the dayā€™s lesson.
    4. Challenge Section: Stretching students with more complex problems to deepen understanding and build confidence.

    Term 1

In Term 1, the focus will be on reinforcing essential Years 5 and 6 concepts while gradually introducing foundational Year 7 topics. By the end of the term, students should have a clearer understanding of their learning gaps and be more confident with basic algebra and geometry.

    Term 2

In Term 2, students will delve deeper into Year 7 concepts, especially algebra and geometry, while continuing to practice skills involving fractions, percentages, and negative numbers. By the end of this term, students should feel comfortable with algebraic expressions and understand basic graphing.

    Term 3

In Term 3, the club will focus on consolidating knowledge by applying it to more advanced topics and problem-solving scenarios. By the end of this term, students should have a solid grasp of core Year 7 topics, ready to progress confidently in mathematics.

Cost: Ā£300 per year, payable in 10 monthly instalments of Ā£30.00.
