Mastering Primary English with Montessori: Years 5 & 6 is a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance students’ proficiency in English through focused skill development. Over 36 weeks, students will strengthen their grammar, reading, writing, and speaking abilities, ensuring a solid foundation for future learning. The program emphasizes interactive lessons and practical applications to improve comprehension, narrative and persuasive writing, and effective communication. By integrating independent and collaborative activities, students will build confidence and mastery in English, preparing them for academic success and engaging expression.
Term 1: Foundations and Core Skills
- Grammar: Focuses on understanding parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation. Students will learn to identify and use nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and different sentence types effectively.
- Reading: Emphasizes comprehension strategies such as predicting, questioning, and summarizing. Students will practice identifying themes, main ideas, and expanding vocabulary.
- Writing: Introduces narrative and descriptive writing, including plot structure and character development. Students will practice drafting, revising, and editing their work.
- Speaking and Listening: Develops skills in effective speaking, active listening, and participating in discussions and debates.
Term 2: Expanding Skills and Application
- Grammar: Covers tenses, subject-verb agreement, and complex sentences. Students will practice using various tenses, ensuring correct subject-verb concord, and forming sentences with subordinate and relative clauses.
- Reading: Focuses on inference, comparison of texts, and exploring different genres. Students will learn to make inferences, compare themes and characters, and explore fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and plays.
- Writing: Explores persuasive and informational writing. Students will practice writing persuasive essays, reports, and articles, with an emphasis on structure and technique.
- Speaking and Listening: Enhances presentation skills and role-play. Students will create and deliver presentations, participate in role-plays, and engage in critical discussions.
Term 3: Mastery and Integration
- Grammar: Advanced topics including direct and indirect speech, modal verbs, conditionals, and advanced punctuation. Students will practice using these elements in complex sentences.
- Reading: Analyzes author’s purpose and text critique. Students will explore and discuss the author’s intent, critically analyze texts, and prepare for reading comprehension tests.
- Writing: Focuses on revision, writing for different audiences, and portfolio creation. Students will refine their writing through revision, write for varied audiences, and compile a portfolio of their work.
- Speaking and Listening: Develops critical listening, teamwork, and end-of-year presentations. Students will engage in evaluating spoken arguments, collaborating in group projects, and reflecting on their learning achievements.
Cost: £1,000 per year, payable in 10 monthly instalments of £100.00.
