This 24-week program is tailored to meet Key Stage 3 standards, offering students aged 11-14 a comprehensive introduction to hand sewing and textiles. The curriculum focuses on developing foundational sewing skills, exploring various decorative techniques, and fostering creativity. Participants will maintain sketchbooks to document their creative processes, research textile traditions, and plan their projects.
Term 1:
- Introduction to basic sewing skills and using a sketchbook
- Exploring fabrics and creating projects
- Introduction to sewing with different mediums (paper)
- Exploring sewing as an art form
Term 2:
- Introduction to patchwork and quilting techniques
- Mastering decorative sewing techniques
- Basic embroidery and embellishment techniques
- Integrating mixed media into sewing projects
Term 3:
- Researching global textiles traditions
- Creating hand – sewn home decor items
- Designing and crafting hand – sewn gifts and accessories
- Final projects and presentation showcase
Cost: Ā£200 per year, payable in 10 monthly instalments of Ā£20.00.
